Happy New Year, everyone! Better twenty-two days late than never, right? Don’t worry, I have a good excuse for my disappearance: this semester has been a rollercoaster ride! Not exactly in a bad way – I’ve just been super busy, and I haven’t had a single blog post-worthy day so far. Luckily, I have had several fun days that can be compiled into one relatively entertaining post. Going back to class can be exhausting, but kicking off spring semester the Orlando way (aka, with lots of theme park visits) definitely helps take the edge off. I hope you enjoy this totally not cohesive recap of my semester so far!
It’s taken me a while, but I will now loudly and proudly say…Hollywood Studios is my favorite park. Ever. At any given moment, no matter where I am on the planet, there is a 100% chance I would rather be at Hollywood Studios. Specifically, I would rather be riding the Tower of Terror. Dani and I made a point of visiting right before the start of the semester, and gosh am I glad we did! There’s quite literally nobody I would rather stress about meeting Kylo Ren with. Speaking of, here’s our family portrait:
Side note: The Last Jedi is a phenomenal film and that’s a hill I’ll willingly die on. And yes, I do own a stuffed porg. While I’m ranting, I’d like to take this opportunity to lobby Bob Iger for a porg meet-and-greet in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge (or as I prefer to call it, Star Wars Land). Speaking of the upcoming Hollywood Studios addition, here’s a peek at what the entrance is looking like right now:
I can’t speak as to whether this painting of the Millennium Falcon is to scale or not, but it sure is a cute photo opportunity. I am so excited for Galaxy’s Edge, even if it means my beloved Hollywood Studios will be way more crowded than usual. It’ll all be worth it for the chance to maybe possibly meet Poe Dameron in person.
The next day, I headed out to Universal Studios with my dear Marley! All of the holiday decor was still up, so it was nice to get one last chance to soak in the Christmas spirit before the reality of the new semester fully set in. I’m glad I brought my camera so I could continue on my quest to take as many photos next to Mel’s Drive-In as possible:
In addition to having all of the holiday decor still up, Universal Studios was also celebrating one last night of the Christmas spirit with their brand-new Holiday Parade! I snapped as many photos as I could, so get ready for a mild spam. If seeing a giant floating minion isn’t the perfect way to say goodbye to Christmas, I don’t know what is.
Of course, it isn’t really kicking off spring semester the Orlando way without a trip to the Magic Kingdom! Emily and I set off with one incredibly ambitious goal: see the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor show. That’s pretty much the only thing we were set on all day, and gosh darn if we didn’t do it. Unfortunately, I was not chosen as the contestant for the mind-reading act, but oh well. And what pointless day at the Magic Kingdom would be complete without a stop at the Purple Wall?
If the Purple Wall ever goes out of style, I don’t even know what I’ll do. I’ll probably have to delete my Instagram or something. Anyway, the best part of the day was a surprise meeting with Cinderella’s stepsisters Anastasia and Drizella, who are pretty much always the funniest. Disclaimer: we did not intentionally twin with each sister.
Side note: people ask me very frequently how I’m able to spend so much time at Disney World and Universal Studios. The answer is: I live right next door! However, for a lot of people, visiting a theme park requires a bit more traveling. I wanted to take a second to share a totally awesome resource if you’re looking to book a trip to the Happiest Place on Earth anytime soon: Reviews.com’s ranking of travel sites! They’ve taken a look at all of the major booking sites and ranked them so you know exactly where to go when you’re planning your next trip. How neat is that? Goodbye vacation planning stress, hello Disney World!
Park Avenue, Winter Park
Last, but not least, I’ve been spending a lot of time on Park Avenue the last two weeks. I haven’t mentioned it on my blog yet, but this semester I’m interning at the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce! I’m loving it so far, and I can’t wait to see what I learn there throughout the semester! Not only do I get to walk to Starbucks for every day for my lunch break – I also finally have an excuse to wear my beret.
Due to the whole interning-while-being-a-full-time-student thing, I’ll have go out of my way to do things exciting enough to warrant a blog post. Luckily, I’ll be at Universal next weekend and hopefully visiting Pandora at Animal Kingdom again soon! Until then, you can keep up with my day-to-day shenanigans on my social feeds. Follow along by clicking the links in my sidebar! I’ve been trying to get into Pinterest for like forty years, so if you follow me there, I’ll almost certainly follow you back.
One last thing: Lena and I are officially going to Her Conference this summer! That means you can expect a photo-filled New York City post in approximately six months. No spoilers, but I also have another announcement about how I’ll be spending this summer that I’ll hopefully be able to share soon…the countdown begins! Until next time!
