Happy August! It’s been a little while since my last post, but rest assured this one is worth the wait (hopefully)! I went to Texas with Becky to visit our friend Emily, and I have so much to say! Between reuniting with my friends and exploring Austin, I had such a blast. I took my camera, so I have plenty of pictures to share too! Let’s jump in!
Becky and I started out our day the best way possible: we went to Voodoo Doughnut! I’m proud to say that despite all of the unique options…I still just chose the pink doughnut with sprinkles. It was so good though – I have no regrets! Well, maybe some regrets about using my clunky DSLR to take a picture of my doughnut. Hopefully my matching pink overalls make up for that.
Next stop? The Driskill Hotel! We just walked through the lobby and down the third floor hallway to see if it was haunted. I didn’t see any ghosts, so my professional opinion would be: it’s not. After our brief stint as ghost hunters, we headed to the Museum of the Weird! I would totally recommend checking that place out. It’s not the most photo-friendly location (some exhibits are off limits for photos and most of the exhibits are in the dark), so I don’t have any pictures to share. But it was so cool and a great experience for a super inexpensive price of admission!
After we shopped near our hotel, the J.W. Marriott, for about an hour, we took a Lyft to check out Barton Springs. The springs themselves were closed for cleaning, and we didn’t particularly want to swim anyway, but it was still really pretty! I got attacked by bugs, but it was worth it. Afterwards, we had lunch at a Chuy’s that was only a ten minute walk away!
After a little more wandering, Emily and her super sweet friend Ashlyn met us at our hotel for a night of eating pizza and playing cards!
The next day, we set out on what I’m going to call the 2017 Austin Wall Crawl Extravaganza! Basically, we hunted down every cute wall in South Congress to take photos with. Here’s a little visual tour:
…and that’s only about half of the walls we saw! South Congress is a gold mine of adorable photo spots, so if you’re looking for some walls to spruce up your Instagram feed, you have to go there. I also did some very Texas things, like checking out a cowboy boot store and saying “yehaw” while inside!
That about sums up my couple of days spent exploring Austin. It was such a fun (and delightfully weird) city, and I totally recommend visiting if you have the chance! Sorry I took so long to update on here – between being out of town and some mild writer’s block, it’s been rough! I’m back now though, and I have some exciting posts planned for the coming weeks. Until next time, happy August!
